"I will never forget after our trip to New Mexico. I returned home and had small grandchildren in the pool swimming around in the water. That night I was uncomfortable when I went to bed. A few hours later, I was literally yelling from the awful pain in back (I lived alone then). I was unable to walk (I had suffered nerve damage that caused drop-foot) So paramedics took me to Providence Hospital. I remember someone on staff said "I think we're going to need Dr. West for this one." It"s 15 years later, and I still see Dr. West when things get really wonky. Dr. Wallace has been great with my hip replacement. Hey, I'm an old wreck, but the Orthopaedic Group has kept it all together for me." -- Shirley S.
"I am about to undergo my fourth neck surgery (third performed by Dr. Volkman). You are correct in your comments regarding how health issues affect our lives. I used to be a very active, healthy, vibrant person; I enjoyed doing many things for fun such as skiing, hiking, boating, jet ski riding, motorcycle riding, and horseback riding. I also enjoyed a great career as an RN at the Mobile Infirmary! I worked for 28 years at that hospital and of course when my problems with my neck got worse and the surgeries became more numerous, I had to stop working and go on disability, which is something I thought would never happen to me.
I am used to control my pain, but now it controls me! I do not like this fact but it is the truth. What I do, where I go, or whether or not I leave the house all revolves around my pain levels. I stay pretty depressed because even simple everyday activities of daily living cause my pain level to go up, I try to take daily walks -there again, walking will increase my pain levels. I feel as though I’ve already given up so much so most days I feel as though life is over for me, but then my inner strength kicks in and won't let me give up. I can only pray and thank God every day for giving me another chance and I also thank God everyday for having the most supportive husband anyone could ever ask for. I am very thankful to have the doctors and staff at The Orthopedic Group, P.C., because I do believe that all of you genuinely care about all of your patients. It feels great to walk into a place where everyone knows you and you know they care. Thanks for being there for me." -- Robin M.
"For years I had pain in my knees. I was out shopping one day when I saw one of my old co-workers. I could hardly stand up because of the pain in my knees, and we started talking she said she had knee replacement about two months ago. I knew right then that this was what I needed. I went to my doctor and told him that I needed a knee replacement; he made me an appointment with Dr. Milton Wallace a knee specialist. I loved my new knee. I went back to Dr. Wallace two years later and told him that I needed a replacement on my other knee and I want him to make it straight, he asked when I wanted it done, I said last month. Now I'm happy, have straight legs, and NO pain. Thank you Dr. Wallace!" -- Shirley F.
"I shattered my leg in a motorcycle accident and Dr. Wallace did a wonderful job of repairing it. The problem was further compounded by my age (60) and the degeneration of the knee. The bone was damaged close to the knee and it needed to be set to enable knee replacement at a later date if necessary. The X-rays indicated that the bone has mended properly." -- William T.
"My recent surgery to repair my right knee, was handled with the normal finesse I have come to expect from Dr. Wallace and his team. In the past 10 years they have repaired my left knee, replaced my right hip, and done carpal tunnel repairs on both of my wrists and one for my wife. We have always been very pleased with Dr. Wallace’s work performed as well as how we were cheerfully helped by everyone from beginning to end. This is the first time that my surgery has been done at the adjacent Mobile Surgery Center and we couldn't be happier with the professional manner this experience was executed. We have and continue to recommend Dr. Wallace to anyone we know that has orthopaedic issues." -- Bryan K.
"I had surgery for a trigger thumb in April 2012 at the Mobile Infirmary Medical Center and Dr. Milton Wallace performed the surgery. Everything went fine, I can't even tell I had surgery and I didn't have to take the first pain medication. No problem with the thumb, it's back to normal. Thanks Dr. Wallace I will recommend you to family and friends." -- Jeanette L.
