Dr. Cope, a sports medicine specialist, graduated from The University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in biology and received his medical degree from The University of Alabama School of Medicine. Dr. Cope completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Campbell Foundation-UTCHS Orthopaedic Residency Program in Memphis, Tennessee, and went on to complete his fellowship training at American Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Clinic in Birmingham, Alabama.
Dr. Cope is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He specializes in sports-related injuries and arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder. Dr. Cope is also specialty-trained in cartilage restoration procedures of the knee, including autologous chondrocyte implantation.
He is a member of most area hospital staff, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. Dr. Cope is the team physician for the University of Mobile. He is also the head of the doctors’ committee for the Senior Bowl.
