This month we’re celebrating some special anniversaries for our specialists! Dr. Clinton Howard, IV is celebrating 15 years with The Orthopaedic Group, P.C. While many things can change over this course of time, one thing remains constant: his commitment to his patients!
THE PATH TO ORTHOPAEDICS
Clinton Howard, IV, is a graduate of Davidson High School and left the Gulf Coast to earn his bachelor’s degree in biology from The University of Alabama. He returned to Mobile to earn his medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, where his interest in orthopaedics was born. He would complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of South Alabama before completing fellowship training in spine surgery at the Foundation for Orthopaedic and Athletic-Related Research at Baylor College of Medicine and The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Since graduating from UT, he has been giving people their autotomy at The Orthopaedic Group!
PATIENT OUTCOMES ARE HIS PRIORITY
Over his 15 years in orthopaedics. Dr. Howard has gotten a front row seat to the advancements that continue to improve patient outcomes. Being part of these advancements and seeing the positive changes for his patients is a motivating factor for Dr. Howard. He says, “I enjoy seeing the patients moving around like they were unable to do before seeing me. The family’s reactions when they are telling me about their loved one’s progress is such a reward.”
Dr. Howard reflects on a specific case involving a young student athlete, Emily, who was suffering from spondylolysis (spon-dee-low-lye-sis), a common cause of low back pain in adolescent athletes. Despite a treatment plan exploring all possible non-surgical treatments, surgery was still necessary and she underwent a spinal fusion between the lumbar vertebra and the sacrum. “Within a year, she was back to high school sports and focusing on helping her team win,” Dr. Howard shares. “She is doing what she loves and living pain free.”
Dr. Howard’s approach is simple, in his opinion. He says, “My job is to provide you with autonomy – your ability to continue to do the things you want to do for the rest of your life. If we can give you your autonomy back, that’s our goal.”
When he’s not improving patient’s lives along the Gulf Coast, you can often find Dr. Howard spending time with his wife and sons or exploring his many interests – one of which includes being a sommelier!
We thank Dr. Howard for his 15 years at The Orthopaedic Group, P.C. and look forward to his continued accomplishments for patients!
