Kyphoplasty is a surgical method used to treat painful, progressive vertebral compression fractures. During kyphoplasty surgery, your back doctor will insert a balloon into your vertebrae. Inflating the balloon allows your spine doctor to elevate your compression fracture, returning your vertebrae to their normal positions. After removing the balloon, your doctor will fill the open space created by the balloon with a cement-like material intended to stabilize your bones in their proper locations.
Kyphoplasty surgery will stabilize your bones and restore the lost vertebral body height caused by your compression fracture.
