It’s almost time for outdoor sports and adventures. That’s right, it’s almost Summer time! As we gear up for some pool time, beach days, or even outdoor adventures, we need to take some precautions to protect our bones and bodies. After winter inactivity some people don’t realize how their bodies will react to the heat and activity we endure during the summer months. There are several ways you can protect your body from sprains and fractures during the Summer.
The Orthopaedic Group wants to make sure you are as safe and healthy as you can be. Here are a few tips to protect you while having fun!
- Make sure you are getting plenty of vitamins. Although the sun provides Vitamin D it is not always the right kind of sunlight and the amount needed. Be sure your daily plan includes getting your multi-vitamin or specific vitamins needed for healthy bones. Vitamin D and Calcium are two essentials vitamins.
- Get plenty of exercise. Exercise is a great way to maintain strength, especially during the winter months when you might not be as active.
- When participating in sports, be sure to wear the proper protective gear. When participating in water sports, it is also important to know your way around the gear and take necessary precautions.
- Limit Alcohol intake. Several summer events include alcohol and too much impairs your reaction time and stability. Having too many drinks can make you more susceptible to falls or accidents.
