Meet Dr. Trevor M. Stubbs: A Louisiana Native and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Specialist with a Passion for Improving Patients’ Quality of Life

Dr. Trevor M. Stubbs knows the value of hard work. This Louisiana native was raised in Pride, Louisiana on a farm. When he wasn’t studying or playing sports, you could find him cutting hay or taking care of animals on the farm.

He received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and his Doctorate of Medicine from the same university’s medical school in New Orleans. He shares that he was introduced to orthopaedics by his uncle, who is also a sports medicine surgeon in Lafayette, Louisiana. “I had the opportunity to observe him in the operating room while in high school,” Stubbs says. “I have always been drawn to the combination of being a very hands-on specialty while at the same time being able to improve the patient’s quality of life and get them back to activities they enjoy.”

Stubbs would go on to complete his residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his Sports Medicine fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital Department of Orthopaedics in New York, NY. The fellowship provided intensive exposure to team coverage, serving as the assistant team physician for the New York Jets, New York Islanders, and Manhattanville College Athletics.

When asked about his life’s influences, Dr. Stubbs shares the impact of his grandfather, who recently passed away. “He influenced me because he could fix or figure out anything, but more importantly he was a deacon in our church in our small community and was known to be a resource to help people in need,” he shares. “We would chop firewood with him and he would deliver it to the elderly people in our community so they would have it to use.”

In addition to his impressive academic and professional background, Dr. Stubbs has also authored several publications within his specialty. He has conducted research on the impact of caffeine intake on tendon-to-bone healing strength, identified deficiencies in understanding of medical statistics among orthopaedic residents in a national survey, and published a case report on distinguishing the lateral notch sign versus a normal terminal sulcus in acute ACL tear.

Aside from his professional accomplishments, Dr. Stubbs has also been recognized as one of Mobile Bay’s 40 Under 40 but shares that he views his greatest accomplishment comes from his patients. “It gives me a lot of joy to have patients come back to me, thankful for the care they received,” he says. “Building those relationships with patients and getting to treat their loved ones’ orthopaedic needs is a great feeling.”

When he’s not at our locations, you can find him spending time with his wife, Megan, and their two sons, AJ (named after his grandfather) and Grady, enjoying all the Gulf Coast has to offer. Dr. Stubbs is an excellent physician whose dedication to his craft is evident in both his academic accomplishments and his professional work.
